The golden tornadoes strike back: After „Jaws“ and „Bonanza“ I can present the third soundtrack-adaption, the famous main theme of „Psycho“. The soundtrack of psycho was composed by Bernhard Herrmann, who also wrote the soundtrack for „Citizen Cane“. „Psycho“ might be his most famous work because of the use of pure string-orchestra, while other hollywood-soundtracks were focused on big orchestra-settings with a lot of brass. The music consists of mainly three elements: a rhythmic motif with atonal chords, second a rushing restless theme and a third a more melodic romantic theme with a characteristic chromatic chord-shift.

One day I just figured out the third theme on the guitar and it worked so well, that I felt encouraged to go on. The challenge of the piece is the high tempo and the fast alternating instruments. The first theme can be played in Legato-style, but I struggled a bit with the fast chromatic chord-shifts of the original, which I had arranged for the rhythm-guitar until I had the idea to use a Vibrato-Pedal. A few months ago I had purchased the remake of the famous Boss Vibrato, a gorgeous analog legend, and „Psycho“ is the perfect occasion to use it the first time in a recording. The Pedal shifts the chord a half step in a specific tempo and the Boss also includes the latch-mode, the possibility to switch the Vibrato on momentary. So while you have to kick a usual Pedal to switch on you have just to push down the Boss to engage the effect and just to raise your foot to switch off.
