The golden tornadoes: Jaws
The soundtrack of Steven Spielberg's "Jaws" was ranked the sixth greatest score by the American Film institute. While many people just remember the infamous beginning containing just two alternating notes the main theme and trailer showcases also many other themes. The impressive and effective beginning evokes a primal fear of nature's power. Williams was inspired by Stravinsky and his raw rhythmic approach in works like "Firebird" and "The rite of springs". But that's not all. He builds up a lot of tension during the bridge-sections with layering clusters piece by piece a la Ligeti. The second them, which is pretty melodic and catchy is underlined by a disturbing and insisting counterpart, which implies a second key (something Charles Ives did often). An adorable example of a movie-soundtrack!
A few weeks ago I wondered, why I could not find a Jaws cover in Surf-Rock style, so I created one for the classic 2 guitars, bass, drums band. The theme is calling for the surf-style.
Recording notes: Both guitars are recorded with my new Guild X-175, left side both PUs, right side Neck-PU. The guitar is equipped with 11s Flatwound strings. I played the bass also live using my Bassculture Picco shortscale with roundwounds.
